Episode 21: It's all linked with Pursuing Fatherhood

Male Infertility//Sperm Donorship//Mental Health// Alex from @pursuingfatherhood joins Emily to share his struggle with male factor infertility after receiving his azoospermia (zero sperm) diagnosis. After a three-year journey, Alex and his wife now have a beautiful one year old daughter via donor sperm.

Infertility as a whole is a topic wrapped up in shame and continues to be a taboo subject. Many assume infertility is predominately an issue people with ovaries struggle with, (which is not factually correct), which makes speaking up about male infertility that much harder. In addition, some men believe their fertility defines their masculinity, making this topic extra layered for both parties involved.

For these reasons and more, Alex bravely started @pursuiuingfatherhood and generously goes into detail about his experience on the Day 1 Podcast.

Listen in to hear:

✨ How Alex dealt with his diagnosis and the steps he and his wife took before deciding to move forward with a sperm donor
✨ How Alex dealt with mourning his genetics and explains how his diagnosis made him question his masculinity
✨ Why Alex started @pursuiningfatherhood and his experience to help others and in turn himself
✨ Alex’s advice on how he came out of his depression by re-finding small joys in his life
